DONNY EDWARDS
2007 “Tribute to the King” Grand Champion
2006 “Tribute to the King” Grand Champion
Donny
grew up listening to Elvis music and watching movies of the Rock "N"
Roll legend. Donny was very impressed knowing that in 1959, his uncle had met
Elvis while in the Army and stationed in Germany. As years went by, Donny would
imitate the moves and voice of Elvis. People would constantly tell Donny how
strong his look was to Elvis. When Donny won a local Elvis contest in
Texas, he then decided that he wanted to show his talent to all the fans that
loved and respected the King.
In
October, 2004, Donny had the honor of being asked by the family of Dale
Earnhardt, Jr. to perform for a Nascar party hosted by the drivers, family and
friends. Not only was his performance raved about, but it was an exciting
experience to perform to the many celebrities that attended. Donny had the
opportunity to perform for the New York Jets during a Monday Night Football
Halftime Show between the Jets and Titans, which was aired on ABC and seen
nationally. Other national TV shows Donny appeared on,include, The "Vegas
Show", MTV, The Travel Channel, and Fox Sports Net and Fox News.
In
May 2005, when “The Young & The Restless” daytime soap opera was
scouting for the look and sound of Elvis, Donny was offered the job immediately
after he auditioned. He surprised many of his fans as they watched their
favorite soap opera only to see Donny Edwards on the show with a singing
part.
In
2005, Donny won the People’s Choice Award for the Best 50’s Elvis from the
Gibson Guitar company in Nashville, Tenn. This is one of many of the lst place
winnings Donny has received.
2006
started off with Donny Edwards taking “1st Place” in the Tribute to The King
contest at the Isle of Capri in Mississippi being awarded $25,000.00 This award
was not only an honor, but it was also having the Jordanaires sing back up that
made this award so special.
Another
honor for Donny is that he was asked to perform at the 50th
anniversary of Elvis returning to Tupelo. The event took place in June of 2006
where again Donny had the ultimate pleasure of performing with the Jordanaires
in front of 14,000 people in Elvis' hometown.
All
of Donny’s shows are special to him, but when he was requested to perform
during Elvis week in August, 2006 for the first annual Tribute Show for Elvis
Presley Enterprise in Memphis, he felt that there were no words to describe the
gratitude of being requested to perform in memory of Elvis Presley.
2007
has started off the year with another triumph as Donny Edwards again has won
another title in a “Tribute To The King Contest” being awarded $25,000.00.
The contest was held during the birthday week of Elvis Presley.
Donny
is the most sought out young Elvis Tribute Artist in the country and performs in
Casinos, Theaters, Corporate Events and Festivals throughout the US and
Internationally including the UK, Japan, Mexico, Hong Kong, Argentina, and
Canada. He now performs quite often with The Jordanaires, The Sweet Inspirations
and DJ Fontana.
He is a versatile performer with the ability to re-create each era of Elvis Presley’s life. Donny’s performance is dynamic, as he brings you back to the early years of the 50’s with his Gold Lame jacket and songs of the movie years, to the sexy, black leather '68 Comeback years, ending with the legendary Vegas years. Donny maintains a performance of incredible authenticity. His incredible look, singing, humbleness, charm and southern speaking voice will make you feel like you are with the King.
